Leona Elsie Zahnow was born on August 21, 1932, at Minneota to Edward and Mary (VanHecke) Van Loy. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Edward's Catholic Church in Minneota and attended school at St. Edward's Parochial School.On July 19, 1951 she was married to Wilfred D. Zahnow at Canby, MN. During her life Leona worked as a waitress, at Fingerhut, Wagner's Hardware, and for the City of Appleton. She was a member of St. John's Altar and Rosary Society and was a life-time member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary. Leona enjoyed bowling, bingo, baking, gardening, shopping, watching Cubs baseball, and the "Wheel of Fortune". She loved taking care of her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and loved visiting her family and friends.Leona died on Wednesday morning, November 18th, at Appleton Area Health Services. She had attained 77 years, 2 months, and 27 days of age.She is survived by her husband, Wilfred "Bill" Zahnow of Appleton; seven children: Vernon Zahnow of Loganville, GA, Karen Guenther of Minnetonka; Patricia Kohlman of Holloway; Susan Zahnow of Appleton; David Zahnow of Appleton, Stephanie (Brian) Mahoney of Waconia; and Paul Zahnow of Appleton; six grandchildren: Andrew, William (Melanie), Danielle (Jason), Katie, Benjamin and Brenna; five great-grandchildren: Madysen, MacKinsey, Kennedy, Zachary and Alex; sister, Agnes Serbergen, of Papillion, NE; nieces, nephews, and other relatives.She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Margaret Abrams; and two brothers: August and Alphonse VanLoy.
