Vione G. Lietz was born November 7, 1926 in Montevideo, Minnesota, the daughter of Alvin and Lillian (Paulson) Evanskass. She was baptized and confirmed at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Watson. Vione grew up in Milan, Minnesota and graduated from Milan with the Class of 1944. On May 11, 1947, Vione was united in marriage to LeRoy Lietz at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church parsonage in Montevideo by Rev. Zimmerman. They were blessed with three children and over 62 years of marriage. Vione spent her time taking care of the home, raising the children, and helping with the farm work. She also worked as a clerk at a grocery store and Montgomery Wards. She taught Sunday School and Bible School at St. John's in Grace Township and St. Mark's in Benson. Vione was an Avon Salesperson for many years. She was a member of the Ladies Aid and Women's Guild at St. Mark's and St. John's Lutheran Church. Among the things she enjoyed were cooking and sewing. Vione was called from this life on Sunday, November 1, 2009 at the Swift County Benson Hospital. She attained the age of 82 years, 11 months and 24 days. Vione is survived by her husband, LeRoy of Benson; her children: Katherine (John) Twitchell of Rio Rancho, NM, Barbara Himley of Benson, and Vicki Hagerty of Rio Rancho, NM; five grandchildren: Angela (Bill) Odgard, John Twitchell, Ryan Twitchell, Matthew Twitchell, and Justin Hagerty; seven great grandchildren; a sister Lorraine Tubbs of Montevideo; and other relatives and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents, Alvin and Lillian; and one brother, Glen Evanskass.
