Kenneth A. Grussing

Kenneth A. Grussing was born July 18, 1944 in Benson, Minnesota, the son of Harry and Doris (Bentley) Grussing. He was baptized and confirmed at Swift Falls, Minnesota. He grew up in the Swift Falls area and attended country school at Rolling Forks District and graduated from Benson High School. Kenneth served his country in the United States Army from 1962 ? 68 during the Vietnam War. He was a Helicopter Crew Chief ACH47. He was also a part of "Guns-a-Go-Go" in Vietnam. On February 20, 1965, Kenneth was united in marriage to Vivian "Jean" Lorenz at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in Benson. They were blessed with two children. Together, Kenneth and Jean were able to share in 44 years of marriage. Kenneth worked as a mechanic for Northwest Airlines. He farmed the home farm until 1985, then worked for Simmons Fertilizer, and drove truck for Thompson Trucking and AGP. They had an antique shop in Benson and owned and operated the Swift Mercantile Store in Swift Falls until Kenneth's retirement. Kenneth was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Swift Falls, a life member of the VFW, and a life member of the Disabled American Vet. Among the things he enjoyed were gardening, collecting antiques and toy tractors, reading, hunting, fishing, and trapping. Kenneth was called from this life on Saturday, June 13, 2009 at his home. He attained the age of 64 years, 10 months and 25 days. Kenneth is survived by his wife Jean of Benson; his children: Lynn (Ron) Lundebrek of Benson and Alan (Liane) Grussing of Benson; four grandchildren: Cole, Sam, Shane, and Abby; siblings: Joan Bock of Bernalillo, NM; and Shirley (Harlen) Wickam of Grandy, NC; and other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, Harry and Doris; and a brother-in-law, Carl Bock.
