Dorethea Eleanor Minnie Giese was born June 12, 1925, to Carl and Ella (Quandt) Beyer at their home in Fairfield Township, Swift County. She was baptized June 15, 1925, and confirmed April 2, 1939, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Moyer Township. She attended rural school at District #48 through the eighth grade and graduated as Valedictorian from Holloway High School in 1943. In high school she sang with the school choir and a choir trio.On June 8, 1945, she married Donald M. Giese at St. John's Lutheran Church. They were blessed with six children and lived on the Giese family farm in rural Holloway. During her life Dorethea was active at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Holloway with Bible study, Ladies Aid, Sunday school, Wednesday Catechism, Vacation Bible School, and singing in the church choir.Dorethea's hobbies included sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting, and reading. She was active in quilters' club, Birthday club, Over-50 Club, AAL/Thrivent, and Homemakers. She was a nurse's aid at the Appleton Nursing Home for ten years. She was proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed nothing more than having friends and family stop and visit. It was very important to her to each Christian values to her family.Dorethea died on Tuesday morning, June 2nd, at Appleton Area Health Services. She had attained 83 years, 11 months, and 20 days of age.She is survived by six children: Vivian (Richard) Straumann of Arden Hills, Donna (Stan) Barney of Clara City, Joanne (Edward) Maeder of Edina, Byron (Marlene) Giese of Benson, Allen (Patricia) Giese of Wahpeton, ND, and Janel (Shawn) Redepenning of Big Lake; ten grandchildren: Daniel (Michelle) Straumann, Paul (Jennn) Straumann, Matthew Straumann, Janna (Chris) Anderson, Ryan (Jody) Barney, Adam Maeder, Christopher Giese, Stephanie (Egon) Lohmann, Mark Redepenning (fiancé Kristy Hass), and Aaron Redepenning; six great-granddaughters: Brianna and Emilia Straumann, Kate Anderson, Piper and Brooke Barney, and Kya Lohmann; three great-grandsons: Carter Anderson, Jack Barney, and Alex Lohmann; brother, David (Gladys) Beyer of Holloway; sister, LouiseEysel, of Columbus, GA; three sisters-in-law: Arlene Beyer, Dagne Beyer, and Sherry Wentler; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald, on June 28, 2000; three brothers: Walter, Marvin, and Carl, Jr.; and sister, Martha Perkovich.
