James Halvorson

James C. Halvorson, was born on February 12, 1929, in Hoff Township, Pope County, Minnesota, the son of Carl Alvin and Esther (Aslakson) Halvorson. James was called from this life on Friday, February 20, 2009 at the Swift County Benson Hospital in Benson, Minnesota. He attained the age of 80 years and 8 days. James was baptizedon March 17, 1929 and confirmedon October 10, 1943 at West Zion Lutheran Church. He grew up in Hoff Township and attended country school at Langhei #85 through the eighth grade. He graduated from Benson High School. On April 12, 1952, James married Cynthia Crystal Craig in El Paso, Texas. Together James and Cynthia shared in thirty five years of marriage. Three children were blessed to this union. James served his country in the Korean War from January 17, 1952 to December 21, 1953. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan and attended electrical school. After the War, James and Cynthia farmed in Langhei Township, Pope County, Minnesota. He lived his entire life in Langhei and Hoff townships. He was a life long member of West Zion Lutheran Church. James enjoyed farming, hunting, and loved to spend time with the grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends and neighbors. James is survived by his two sons; DuWayne and his wife Dianne Halvorson, of Clontarf, MN, Charles and his wife Kathy Halvorson of Clontarf, MN; five grand children Dan(Jamie), Amanda (Aaron), Robyn (Justin), Beth, and Alex; and two great-grandchildren Zoe and Dugan. He was preceded in death by his parents Alvin and Esther, his wife Cynthia in 1988, and a daughter Sarah.
