Lowell Orville Sather was born on January 13, 1927 in Benson, Minnesota, the son of Selmer and Leone (Goff) Sather. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Benson. He grew up on the rural Benson family farm and attended District 95 country school. On February 4, 1945, Lowell was united in marriage to Bernelda "Nellie" Agnes Gades at her parents' home by Rev. Fadtke. Together they were able to share in more than 60 years of marriage. This union was blessed with five children, thirteen grandchildren, and eighteen great-grandchildren. Lowell farmed in Swenoda and Six Mile Grove Townships until he retired at age 72. He then moved to town where he lived at Countryside Apartments and Scofield Place. He served on the Six Mile Grove Township Board for 29 years. Among the things Lowell enjoyed were deer hunting, watching the Minnesota Twins, playing cards, he loved to tinker with and fix on machinery, and spending time with family. He was called from this life on July 10, 2012 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. He attained the age of 85 years and 5 months and 27 days. He is survived by his children: Kathleen (Ron) Lalim of St. Cloud, Cheryl (Jim) Mueller of Atwater, Susan Sather of Redwood Falls, Becky (Terry) Overlander of Dawson, and Douglas (Sue) Sather of Benson; grandchildren: Theresa (Ken) Johnson, Patty (Gene) Savelkoul, Joel (Angie) Mueller, Heather Mueller, Christian Grothe, Martina (Greg) Cannon, Branden Sather, Justen (Kristin) Overlander, Miranda (Jack) Gallagher, Jasmine Bradburn, Zachary Sather, Erika Kaufman, and Jacob Kaufman; eighteen great-grandchildren; his brother, Alvin Sather of Cottage Grove; sisters: Shirley (Ben) Kepner of Holloway, Marlys (Dave) Ranney of New Hope, Bev (Allan) Orson of Annandale; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie; parents, Selmer and Leone; granddaughter, Mackenzie Overlander; grandson, Matthew Grothe; and sister-in-law, Marlys Sather.
