Matthew Langan

May 23, 1963 — November 24, 2010

Matthew James Langan was born on May 23, 1963 in Benson, MN to James and LaVayne Langan. He attended St. Francis Catholic school and graduated from Benson Senior High. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from North Dakota State University and joined the Peace Corps, where he traveled to South America. From an early age, Matt worked on the family farm. After receiving his degree in agricultural economics, he came back to Danvers to run the family farm. With his knack for farming, a head for business and a love of the land, Matt began a growth period for the Langan farm. While he spent the majority of his time farming, he spent plenty of time guiding hunts and throwing clays for hunters at Charlie's Hunting Club. Matt was known as a great farmer, but he was better known for his friendly demeanor and willingness to lend a helping hand. Whether it was checking in on a neighbor, driving a friend to the doctor's office or just quietly helping someone fix equipment or winterize a house, Matt looked out for friends, neighbors and family. While he enjoyed farming, followed corn and bean prices and of course talked weather, his favorite interest and enjoyment in life was in his role as Uncle. His two nephews became a central fixture of his life; he learned that your knees take a beating when you are "bullseye the horse" and the boys learned how to drive a combine on the lap of their favorite Uncle. Matt was generous in his spirit and quick in his wit and always took care of his family.Matt is survived by his parents, Jim and LaVayne Langan, his siblings Patricia (Dean) Richard of Reno, NV, Jeanne Langan of Ann Arbor, MI, and Joe Langan of Minneapolis, MN; and his two nephews, Matthew and AJ Richard. Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Goldie and Martin Rovang and Margaret and Matthew Langan.Matt's family wishes to thank everyone for your presence at today's service and for your support and comfort during these difficult days. Following the service, please join the family at the Parish Hall for lunch and conversation.
