George Edward Brown, Sr. was born February 22, 1916 in Chippewa County, Minnesota, the son of Peter and Olena (Hendrickson) Brun. He was baptized and confirmed at Jevnaker Lutheran Church. He grew up on the family farm in rural Montevideo and attended school through the eighth grade. On September 17, 1939, George was united in marriage to Annabelle Henselin in Montevideo by Rev. Mason. The couple was blessed with four children and 62 years of marriage. George worked at a mechanic shop in Montevideo, then began farming in 1942. He continued to farm until he retired in 1981, and George and Ann moved into Benson. George was a member of the Farmers Union. Among the things he enjoyed were fishing, hunting, playing cards, woodworking, dancing, traveling, and playing practical jokes. He especially enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids. George was called from this life on Friday, October 29, 2010 at his residence. He attained the age of 94 years, 8 month and 7 days. George is survived by his children: Connie (Jerry) Opoien of Benson, Dwight (LouElla) Brown of Clontarf, and Howdice (Gloria) Brown of Henderson, NV; fifteen grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; and fifteen great-great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his wife Ann; his son George, Jr.; his parents; a great grandson; four brothers; and three sisters.
