Doris Margaret Schafer was born April 16, 1924 in Clara City, Minnesota, the daughter of Frank and Lena (Zellar) Suter. She grew up in DeGraff and graduated from country school District 45 and Benson High School. On August 26, 1944, Doris was united in marriage to Clifford J. Schafer at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in DeGraff. They were blessed with four children and 67 years of marriage. Doris and Clifford farmed near Renville for seven years and then moved to De Graff in 1952. Doris was a full time homemaker and farmer her entire life. She was an active member of St. Bridget's Altar & Rosary Society and Homemakers Club. Among the things she enjoyed were dancing, playing cards, fishing, golf, traveling, gardening, crocheting, sewing, and ceramics. She especially enjoyed being with her grandchildren, great grandchildren and her family. Doris was called from this life on July 7, 2012 at Swift County Benson Hospital. She attained the age of 88 years, 2 months and 21 days. Doris is survived by her children: Beverly Schafer of New London, Betty (Larry) Miller of St. Cloud, Judy (Wayne) Arends of New London, and Jerry (Pam) Schafer of De Graff; eleven grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Arlene Clemen of Benson; and many nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends. Preceding her in death were her husband, Clifford; her parents, Frank and Lena; three brothers: Harold, Alvin, and Leonard; and a sister, Frances.
