Clifford J. Schafer

August 12, 1924 — January 29, 2012

Clifford J. Shafer was born August 12, 1924 in Renville, Minnesota, the son of Robert J. and Anna (Ashton) Schafer. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Redeemer's Catholic Church in Renville. He grew up on a farm near Renville and attended high school through the eighth grade. On August 26, 1944, Clifford was united in marriage to Doris M. Suter at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in De Graff. They were blessed with four children and 67 years of marriage. Clifford farmed near Renville for seven years, then moved to De Graff in 1952 and farmed there his entire life. Among the things he enjoyed were hunting, fishing, dancing, playing cards, traveling, woodcrafting, and woodworking. He especially enjoyed being with his grandchildren, great grandchildren and his family. Clifford was called from this life on January 29, 2012 in Mission, TX. He attained the age of 87 years, 5 months and 17 days. Clifford is survived by his wife Doris of De Graff; his children: Jerry (Pam) Schafer of De Graff, Beverly Schafer of New London, Betty (Larry) Miller of St. Cloud, and Judy (Wayne) Arends of New London; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; one brother, Clarence (Ruth) Schafer of Eden Prairie, and many nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents; four brothers: Rob, Jim, Roy & Rupert Schafer; and a sister, Loretta Schack.
