Roger Edward Hoffman was born March 31, 1933, in Holloway, Minnesota, the son of Verner and Alvina (Giese) Hoffman. He was baptized April 17, 1933 by Pastor Elmer Schwandt and confirmed into the Christian faith on May 18, 1947 by Pastor Meichsner at Trinity-Fairfield Lutheran Church near Holloway. Roger grew up in Tara Township of Swift County, Minnesota and attended school at District #50. He served his country in the United States Air Force from 1952 - 1955 during the Korean War. On September 4, 1955, Roger was united in marriage to Dorothy Elaine Reich at Trinity - Fairfield Lutheran Church by Pastor Carl Wirth. They were blessed with 56 years of marriage and four children. Roger lived and worked in Swift County his entire life. He farmed from 1955 to 1993, then drove truck until he retired. Roger and Dorothy moved to Benson in 2008. Roger served on the elevator and township boards and the Danvers City Council. He was a lifetime member of the VFW. Among the things he enjoyed were hunting, fishing, bowling, family get-togethers and cribbage games. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Roger was called from this life on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at Meadow Lane Health Golden Living Center. He attained the age of 78 years, 5 months and 7 days. Roger is survived by his wife Dorothy of Benson; his children: Roger (Angela) Hoffman, Jr. of Portland, ND, Rodney (Janet) Hoffman of Danvers, Terry (Kevin) Suter of DeGraff, and Rick (Shelly) Hoffman of Benson; twelve grandchildren: Joe (Brianne) Hoffman, Lucas (Mandi) Hoffman, Hailey (Andy) Stein, Garrett Hoffman, Brett Hoffman, Emily Hoffman, Kristy (Gabe) Nelson, Joe Fennell, Laura Hoffman, Rebecca Hoffman, and Matthew Hoffman; four great grandchildren: Kailie & Samuel Nelson and Holden & Bennett Hoffman; his brother, Ralph (Marilyn) Hoffman of Danvers; brother-in-law, Alvin Sather of Cottage Grove; sister-in-law, Barbara Hoffman of Paynesville; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents; grandson, Eric Hoffman; brothers: Milton and Valgene Hoffman; and sisters: Marlys Sather and Shirley Schmidt.
