Ida Forbord

Ida Irene (Lingen) Forbord, 81, of Benson died peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, March 18, 2011 at the Golden Living Center in Benson where she had resided for a short time. Ida was born January 26, 1930 in Starbuck to Carl and Minnie (Bakko) Lingen. She attended District # 92 country school and graduated from Starbuck High School in 1948 where she earned letters in choir, band, and Girls Athletic Association. Ida was baptized, confirmed, and married by Rev. G. O. Forde of St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Starbuck. Ida was united in marriage to Myron Forbord on September 10, 1948. For 61 years she was a loyal companion and business partner as they owned and developed their farm in Langhei Township, Pope County, north of Benson. Ida was active in their agriculture business and the daily farm operation which was primarily dairy but also included crops, hogs, and chickens. They retired in June 2009 and moved to their home in Benson. Her life was full with activity enjoying music, square dancing, ballroom dancing, sewing, ceramics, softball, golf, Norwegian rosemaling, and gardening. She served as president of Benson Garden Club, and Sons of Norway, District 10 Minnesota Horticulture, Morris Conference WELCA, and served on the Synod Board of the ELC. She was an active member of East Zion Lutheran Church, rural Starbuck, for 62 years serving as Sunday School Superintendent, Jr. and Sr. Choir Director, president of their ALCW (women's group),and coordinator of the parish Thrivent group, delegate to many synod meetings, conventions, and Luther Crest Bible Camp. She was a guest speaker at many mother-daughter banquets. Ida became a master gardener with the Minnesota State Horticulture Society. She planted an apple orchard, hundreds of trees, many flowers and maintained a vegetable garden. She spoke on KBMO radio for the "Home Hour" sharing horticulture tips. For 17 years she was secretary of the Pope County Extension Committee. She gave a presentation in Washington, D. C. to the National Advisory Board of Agriculture. Ida was instrumental in developing the Langhei Aces 4 - H Club and was an active leader and supporter for years. For family and friends she hosted many social events at their farm home and their Lake Minnewaska cottage. She was especially noted for her Scandinavian smorgasbord at Christmas. Ida appreciated music by playing her trombone, singing in various family groups, and supporting her family at countless recitals and concerts. She was very proud of her grandchildren and actively encouraged them at their events traveling to many concerts, recitals, hockey, football, basketball, volleyball games, water-ski shows, and cattle shows.Ida liked to plan trips and travel. Together Myron and Ida visited Norway three times. They also toured Sweden, Denmark and Germany, attending the "Passion Play". They enjoyed other trips to Arizona, California, Florida, Hawaii, Montana, South Dakota, Mexico and an Alaskan Cruise. Ida is survived by her loving husband, Myron of 62 years; daughters: Marge (Chuck) Berg, Perham, Linda (Gregg) Hanson, Spicer, Lilla (Duane) Talge, Moorhead, Karen (Randy) Mitteness, Benson, Miriam (Craig) Lindblad, Benson, and Joyce (Rev. Mark) Manning, Breckenridge. Grandchildren: Berg: Joe (Denita) , Melissa (Rev. Matthew) Peterson, Cheryl (Tyler) Bormann; Hanson: Matthew (Jennifer) , Mary Kay , Michael, (Jenna); Talge: Josh (Maureen), Jordan (Karen); Mitteness: Ryan and Mark; Lindblad: Carl, Peter, Monica, and Hanna; Manning: Siri, Britta, Erik, and Kurt. Four great grandchildren: Ava and Samuel Hanson, Oscar and Edda Peterson. Her sister, Marie Odegaard, Starbuck, and many nieces and nephews. Ida was preceded in death by her beloved son, Marlin Lingen Forbord (l972), grandson, Barry Berg (l988), her parents, sisters: Blanche Remington, Olive Forbord, twins-Ida and Irene Lingen ( in childhood),and brothers, Rev. Gerhard Lingen and Clifford Lingen .
