Stephen D. Shores

Stephen D. Shores was born December 12, 1938 in Benson, Minnesota, the son of William D. and Lillian (Levitz) Shores. He was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith at Bethesda Lutheran Church. He graduated from Murdock High School with the Class of 1957. Steve served his country in the United States Army from 1958 - 1960, being stationed at Fort Carson, CO. He also served overseas in Augsburg, Germany. After being honorably discharged, Steve went on to attain his Bachelor's Degree in 1965 from the University of Minnesota at Morris, majoring in Social work. On June 9, 1962, Steve was united in marriage to Darleen Gayle Larson at Bethesda Lutheran Church in rural Murdock. They were blessed with two sons and 48 years of marriage. Steve worked as a social worker in Glenwood, Minnesota for the Pope County Human Services. He then worked for the Vocational Rehabilitation Services for the State of Minnesota in Willmar, retiring in 1995. During this time he also farmed the family farm near Murdock from 1974 until 1990. He was a long-time member of Bethesda Lutheran Church serving as a council member, and for 18 years he held the treasure's position. Steve enjoyed annual reunions at different locations around the country with Army buddies and their wives. He also enjoyed fishing, dancing, skiing, reading, watching the Vikings & Twins games, playing cards and shaking dice, and especially spending time with family and friends. He was a member of the Kavanagh-Helgeson VFW Post#5342. Steve was called from this life on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at Bethesda Heritage Nursing Home in Willmar. He attained the age of 72 years, 1 month and 6 days. Steve is survived by his wife Darleen of Murdock; his sons: Bryan (Angela) Shores of Kerkhoven and Mark (April) Shores of Cincinnati, OH; siblings: Jan (Gary) Bjorngjeld of Murdock and Stan (Carol) Shores of Sun Lakes, AZ; and other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, Bill and Lil Shores.
