James Bernard Saunders was born March 22, 1928 in Torning Township, Swift County, Minnesota, the son of Linus and Cora (Hackert) Saunders. James grew up and attended school at District #38, Swift County, and he graduated from Benson High School. On March 8, 1953, James was united in marriage to Jeanette Jean Henrichs at the Federated Church in Morris. This union was blessed with four sons and two daughters. He was a member of Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ in Benson. James farmed the home farm where he was born and he lived there his entire life. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and traveling. He loved his grandchildren. He was a member of Putts and Purrs Tractor Club. James is survived by his wife Janette of Benson; children: John (and Ondine) Saunders of Seattle, WA, Allen (and Janet ) Saunders of Benson, Rodney (and Susan) Saunders of Boise, ID, Steven Saunders of Portland, OR, Nancy (and Jim) Meyhoefer of Shakopee, and Peggy (and Doug) Heldman 0f Forest Lake; grandchildren: Lauren, Kelly, Alex, Molly, Jack and Kamra; sisters: Agnes O'Malley of Benson, Betty (and Len) Bauman of Duluth and Margie Wakeman of Greeley, CO; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and four sisters.
