Lillian Sophia Henkelmann

December 17, 1913 — July 8, 2010

Lillian Sophia Henkelmann was born December 17, 1913, at Akron Township, Big Stone County, to parents Gustave and Bertha (Luchsinger) Henkelmann. She grew up on the family farm and attended country school at District #54 through the eighth grade. She worked on the family farm for many years. Lillian attended the Correll Methodist Church and later became a member of the Bethel Evangelical Free Church in Appleton until it closed.When she moved to Appleton in 1953 with her parents she began working at the Appleton Municipal Hospital. She helped make meals for the hospital and nursing home residents for 30 years, retiring in 1983. She later worked a few years at the local bakery.Lillian's enjoyment came from the many hours of caring for her beautiful flower gardens. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, collecting recipes, doing needlework and attending family birthday parties. She enjoyed seeing her niece and nephews and their families.In the fall of 1997 she moved to Pleasant View Apartments where she lived until she entered the Appleton Nursing Home in August of 2004. She remained at the nursing home until her death on Thursday, July 8. She had attained 96 years, 6 months, and 21 days of age.She is survived by her sister-in-law, Grace Henkelman, of Ortonville; niece, Julie (Ron) Beyer of Ortonville; two nephews: Paul (Gina) Henkelman of Mankato and Mark (Melanie) Henkelman of Marshall; great-nieces and nephews, and cousins.She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Art Henkelman; sister and brother-in-law, Walter and Ruth Forsberg; and two nephews: Jerry and Dennis Forsberg.
