Cody James DeVaan was born January 24, 1994, in Alexandria, Minnesota, the son of Steven John and Sandy Kaye (Ascheman) DeVaan. He was baptized on April 10, 1994 at St. Bridgets Catholic Church in DeGraff. He grew up in DeGraff with his parents Steve and Sandy and his brother "Teddy" Theodore and his sister Jalynn. He loved playing with his dog "Diesel" and his cat "Dirt Bike." He had a passion for football and was presently on the Benson High School team, where he was a sophomore. His dream was to play for the Vikings and buy his parents a new house. Cody never shyed away from work and always had to be busy doing something. He spent countless hours with his parents caring for his crops out at his garden on the farm. Later on Cody expanded his farm with chickens, first eaters then laying hens, always trying to convince his mom to eat the blue eggs. Cody annually produced an impressive crop, winning many ribbons at the Swift County Fair and proudly giving surplus to friends and family. He filled his 16 years with endless days of fishing up at Lake Scandi with his cousins, snowmobiling with his friends and hunting with his dad and brother. Cody especially loved spending time with his family and friends. Cody was called from this life on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 along with his best friend Ben Mast. Cody had a kind heart and touched the lives of many people and will be dearly missed by everyone.Cody is survived by his parents, Steve and Sandy DeVaan of De Graff; brother, Theodore (Robbinsdale) and sister Jalynn (De Graff); Grandma Bernice Ascheman of Clontarf and Grandma "Janie" Mary Jane DeVaan of Lake Scandi; great grandma "Lucy" Lucille Rutledge of Murdock; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Preceding him in death were his Grandpa Jack DeVaan, Grandpa Floyd Ascheman; and his aunt Sarah DeVaan.
