Alvina Mae Amundson

Alvina Mae Amundson, 89, of Benson, Minn., died Thursday, November 26, 2020, at Rice Carris Health Care Center and Therapy Suites in Willmar. A private family service will be held at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Benson followed by the interment in Benson City Cemetery.

Alvina Mae Amundson was born July 9, 1931 in Benson, Minnesota, daughter of Albert and Myrtle Hagen. She was baptized on September 6, 1931 at Six Mile Grove Church and confirmed into the Christian faith June 2, 1946 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Alvina attended Benson Public Schools until the 8th grade. After leaving school she got a job at Benson Produce. She also worked for her parents babysitting her siblings. On October 1, 1948, Alvina was united in marriage to Russell Verdi Amundson at Swift County Hospital by the Justice of the Peace. This marriage was blessed with seven children. They were able to share 60 years of marriage.

Alvina was a homemaker and an excellent cook, she enjoyed hanging clothes on the line and all the neighbor ladies said, “Alvina had the whitest whites.” Later in life, she worked at Future Products. Her favorite job was being an Avon Representative and she achieved Presidents Club a couple of years which was quite an honor! She was a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary, quilted with the ladies at St. Mark’s Church and was in a Women’s church group. Alvina enjoyed playing cards, gardening, crocheting, and dancing to old time music.

Alvina was called from this life November 26, 2020, she attained the age of 89 years, 4 months and 17 days. She is survived by her children: Glenn (Diane) Amundson of Donnelly, Jim (Helen) Amundson of Benson, Cheryl (Roland) Sandberg of Hutchinson, Randy (Lori) Amundson of Danvers, Mark (Barb) Amundson of Ortonville, David (Grace) Amundson of Benson; many Grandchildren, Great-Grandchildren and Great-Great-Grandchildren; siblings: Marlo Hagen of Boise, Idaho, Jerry (Pat) Hagen of Benson, Lillian (Valgene) Molden of Benson, Connie (Paul) Flaten of Swift Falls, Teresa (Paul) Johnson of Marana, Arizona, Sally (Vern) Bierbaum of Willmar, Pete (Paulette) Hagen of Willmar, Ronald (Pat) Hagen of Willmar, Lonnie (Sharon) Hagen of Benson, and Julie (Paul) Anderson of New London; and several other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death are her husband, Russell; a stillborn son, Dean Amundson; her parents, Albert and Myrtle Hagen; grandson, Joshua Amundson; her brothers, Albert Jr. “Sonny” and Tom Hagen; and her sister Barbara Quinn. Blessed be the memory of Alvina Mae Amundson.
