Amy Lynn Harris Glass (Schmidt), 50, of Saint Paul, passed away on December 8, 2023, surrounded by friends and family. A visitation will be held 3-4 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life service at 4 p.m., Saturday, April 20, 2024, at the Aaron and Shannon Schmidt farm (rural Appleton). A private interment will be in Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery, Shible Township.
Amy was born on January 21, 1973, in Willmar, MN to Roger and Jackie (Pautzke) Schmidt. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Shible Township.
Amy graduated from Lac Qui Parle High School in 1991 and went on to study Early Childhood Education at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. This path eventually led her to the early childcare room at the Midway YMCA in 1998, where she met Zoie. With Amy in childcare and Zoie in the school-age room, they wrote notes to each other every day. These notes became love notes and eventually, they married – for the first time in 2005 and again in 2013, shortly after Minnesota passed the law to make same-sex marriages legal. This was one of many barriers they broke as it was the first gay marriage in Lyon County! They would have married a third time just for fun if Amy had her way - Amy loved her wife and loved a reason to throw a party. Creating their life around one simple message… All you need is Love, together, they built and sustained a community of Love everywhere they went.
In 2008, they started Lucille’s Kitchen Garden, their gourmet jelly business. Named after their sweet daughter, it was a family affair, with Austen helping “run the business” by the age of five. Amy always said, creating Lucille’s Kitchen Garden with Zoie was *magical*. Zoie and Amy made a dream team with their passion, skill, and knowledge from their childhood days of farming and living off the land. Although they expected to keep the business small, it was destined to take off. One simple gift to her co-worker set the ball in motion when that co-worker applied for Lucille’s to be at the Mill City Farmer’s Market and they got in! Shortly after, the Wedge became their first commercial grocery client, and soon after that they were interviewed by Rick Nelson of the Star Tribune who helped launch their name. This labor of love grew and flourished until 2016.
Amy and Zoie enjoyed ice fishing, lake fishing, any kind of fishing, driving (you know, just to be together), dancing, playing bingo, and golf carting on warm-weather vacations. Amy lived her life with compassion and grace in a way that would make her children and family proud. Spending time with family and friends was the language of love for their household. Any day of the week you could find people gathered for dinner, stopping by for a quick hello under their red tent, or cheering for the Vikes. They created a sense of community with their smiles, hugs, and laughter…welcoming all. Amy will be remembered for the fun she created and the fun you felt when you were around her.
She is survived by her spouse Zoie Glass, daughter, Austen Lucille Harris, son, Devon Michael White, Mom and Dad, her brother Aaron [Shannon] Schmidt and children Shaleah, Kaden, and Kellen; Anne [Aaron] Kells and children Korbin and Kyson, and lost too early in life, baby Kennedy; Adam [Olivia] Schmidt, and children Ashlyn and Hanley. She will also be missed by her loyal dogs Winston and Louie and many friends whom she lovingly called “framily”. She looks forward to seeing her dog Sydney in heaven.
Amy would like to express her deep gratitude for Zoie, Austen, Devon, her mom and dad, sister, brothers, friends, and family.
Celebration of life services will be held in her hometown next summer.
