Berthold "Bert" Koosmann

Berthold Carl Edward Koosmann was born in Fairfield Township, Swift County, Minnesota, on August 25, 1922, to parents John E. and Bertha (Beyer) Koosmann.  Bert was born in the farmhouse that he lived in his entire life, until the last couple of months when he resided at Skyview Plaza in Morris.

He married Doris Asher on June 20, 1946 in Canby.  This union was blessed with 73 years together and three children: Lois, Steven and Ann.  The couple farmed for many years on his home farm in Fairfield Township.  He did agricultural research for the Conklin Company for about 10 years prior to his retirement.

Bert was active in many clubs and organizations, including: Holloway Sportsmen’s Club, Swift County Planning Board, Fairfield Township Board, and the Holloway Over 50 Club.  He was also a long-time member of Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton.

In retirement Bert enjoyed conservation projects, especially river and native prairie restoration.  He was an active gardener and enjoyed woodworking and viewing wildlife.

Bert passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2020, in Morris.  He attained 97 years, 5 months, and 4 days of age.  He is survived by his wife, Doris Koosmann of Appleton; daughters: Lois Mielke of Appleton and Ann (Todd) Anderson of Coon Rapids; two grandchildren: Graham Koosmann and Catherine Koosmann, both of St. Louis, MO; sister-in-law, Carol Koosmann of Crystal; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Steven Koosmann in 2018; six brothers: Martin Koosmann, Sieghart Koosmann, Werner Koosmann, Wilbert Koosmann, John Koosmann and Richard Koosmann; and sister, Marie Koosmann.
