Carolyn Kay Meyer, age 80, of Appleton, Minnesota, died Monday evening, December 16, 2024, at the Appleton Area Health - Hospital. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at the St. John's Catholic Church in Appleton. Visitation will continue Friday, December 20, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. The burial will be in the Appleton City Cemetery. Zniewski Funeral Home-Vaala Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Carolyn Kay Meyer was born on January 18, 1944, in Madison, Minnesota, the daughter of Joseph and Josephine (Larson) Ruether, the seventh of ten children. She grew up on the family farm and in 1953, the family moved to Appleton, Minnesota. She was baptized at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Madison and confirmed at St. John’s Catholic Church in Appleton. Carolyn attended school in Appleton and after graduation worked for Bob Miller, DDS, as a dental assistant and at JC Penney’s. On June 8, 1963, Carolyn was united in marriage to Leonard John Meyer, Jr.
Carolyn also worked at Bruno’s Café, D &C Chevrolet, Roggatz Farm Implement, Loher’s Sport Center, Appleton Aero Spray, Prairie Playhouse Daycare and as a Paraprofessional at Appleton Elementary School. She went back to school and received a degree from Alexandria Vocational and Technical Institute. Carloyn owned and operated Meyer’s on Main Café for ten years. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and served as a Religious Education teacher for many years. She enjoyed reading, going on walks, and spending time at the lake. Carolyn loved time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was called from this life Monday evening, December 16, 2024, at the Appleton Area Health – Hospital. She attained the age of 80 years, 11 months and 8 days of age.
Carolyn is survived by her husband Leonard Meyer of Appleton; children: Michele (Rick) Hoffman of Benson, Steven (Karen) Meyer of Appleton, Thomas (Diane) Meyer of Glenwood, and Timothy (Cherlyn) Meyer of Appleton; 13 grandchildren: Laura Lauwagie, Rebecca Nielson, Matthew Hoffman, Angie Stamp, Jessica Haas, Paige Meyer, Brandi Meyer, Beau Meyer, Morgan Meyer, Alec Will, Gavin Meyer, Owen Meyer, and Declyn Meyer; seven great-grandchildren: Eli Stamp, Emmett Stamp, Ella Stamp, Nolan Haas, Holt Haas, Josphine Nielsen, and Parker Lauwagie; siblings: Gail Baldwin of Montevideo, Wayne (Carol) Ruether of Appleton, Greg Ruether of Appleton, Mary (Charles) Kelly of Blaine, and Larry (Dawn) Ruether) of Alexandria; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents Joe and Josie Ruether, mother and father-in-law Leonard and Delores Meyer, son Lee Meyer, and siblings: Arlene and Jerome Albrecht, Donald and Diane Ruether, John Ruether, and Jeanette and Virgil Sachs. Blessed be her memory.
