Charles Silas Clark

Charles Clark, 91, passed away on Wednesday evening, November 4, 2020 at the Courage Cottage in Morris, Minnesota. A visitation will be held on Friday, November 13, 2020 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am, at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson. Interment will be in the Benson City Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Zniewski Funeral Home of Benson.

Charles Silas Clark, Jr. was born on December 27, 1928 at home in Rolling Forks Township, Pope County, Minnesota, the son of Charles “Charlie” Clark, Sr., and Selma (Davidson) Clark. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. He grew up helping his father on the family farm. He graduated from Glenwood High School in 1947.

On August 29, 1953, Charles was united in marriage to Viola Steen at Swift Falls Lutheran Church. This union was blessed with two children. Together they were able to share in 54 years of marriage. They worked together on the family farm for most of those years.

Charles continued to work on the family farm after his father passed away. He loved working the land and raising livestock. He was in the surroundings he enjoyed. He also had various other jobs throughout his life. He worked for Jennie-O-Foods, as a custodian for Rolling Forks Lutheran Church, Larson Trucking, Haugen Implement, Swift County Benson Hospital, Benson Public Schools as the Swimming Pool custodian and bus driver, Super Valu, Kelly Nelson road grading, TCI manufacturing, as a land surveyor, and as a corn seed salesman.

He was a previous member of Rolling Forks Lutheran Church and Chippewa Falls Lutheran Church and was a present member of Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church of Benson. Among the things that he enjoyed were farming, raising livestock, mowing lawn, snow blowing, fishing, and his Allis Chalmers tractors, his friends he met to visit with at Breen’s Pharmacy and the Benson Bakery as he was a social person who loved to talk.  He especially enjoyed being with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Charles was called from this life on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at the Courage Cottage in Morris, Minnesota. He attained the age of 91 years, 10 months, and 8 days.

Charles is survived by his children Douglas (Vivian) Clark of Benson, and Janet (Dale) Hagestuen of Clontarf; four grandchildren Jill (Micah) Johnson of Maple Grove, Matthew Hagestuen of Waco, Texas, Chad Clark of Ortonville, and Josh Clark of Benson; two great grandchildren Noah and Asher Johnson; and other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents Charles “Charlie”  and Selma Clark, his wife Viola (Steen) Clark, and great grandchildren Hope and Azariah Johnson. Blessed be his memory.
