Clarice Ione Maher

Clarice Maher, age 84, of Alexandria, formerly of Appleton, passed away at Alomere Health in Alexandria on Saturday, November 20, 2021.  Visitation will be 10-11 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 6, 2022, at Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton.  Vicar Sara Larson will officiate.  Burial will be in Appleton City Cemetery.

Clarice Ione Maher was born August 3, 1937, in Appleton, MN to Clarence and Amanda (Koosmann) Johnson. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, attended school in Appleton, and graduated in 1955. It was there she met her high school sweetheart, Mike Maher. Mike and Clarice were married in August 16, 1958, at Zion Lutheran Church, Appleton, MN. The two were each other's lifelong companions and best friends. They were blessed with 49 years of marriage and two daughters, Carla and Colleen.

Clarice was active in the Appleton community where she served as president of the ladies aid at Zion Lutheran, attended bible study and worked many hours at the Zion Lutheran fair stand at the Swift county fair. Until 1981, Mike and Clarice owned Maher TV and Appliance in downtown Appleton. Clarice then worked various jobs within the community until she retired from food service at the Appleton hospital in 2000.

Clarice enjoyed sewing, crocheting and knitting. She took pride in making outfits and beautiful afghans for her children and grandchildren. Clarice was a member of a whist card club for almost 60 years where she made many lifelong friends. One of Clarice's greatest joys was to brag about her children and grandchildren to anyone who would listen. She truly was known for her quick wit, sense of humor and kindness.

Clarice is survived by her daughters, Carla Maher and Colleen (Lance) Schoeberl; three grandchildren: Carrie (Jess) Coffin, Lucas (Sarah) Schoeberl and Amanda Vasquez; two great-grandchildren: Charlie and Grant Coffin; sister, Myra (Phil) Brown; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike in 2007; and her parents, Clarence and Amanda Johnson.
