Deloris Melba (Zimmerman) Erdmann was born January 16, 1927 at home in Holloway Village in Swift County, the daughter of Frank and Alma (Zacharias) Zimmerman. She was baptized at home by Rev. C. Anderson and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church Fairfield Township on April 30, 1944 by Rev. E. T. Meichsner. She attended school at District 65 south of Benson through the 8 th grade. On October 22, 1947 she was united in marriage to Wilbert Erdmann at Trinity Lutheran Church Fairfield Township. They were blessed with two children and 72 years of marriage. They farmed by Appleton, Holloway, and Swift Falls, moving to Benson in 1973.
Deloris spent her entire life serving others. Her mother died when she was ten years old and she became the caretaker for her siblings. She continued caring for others her entire life, working at the Southside Café in Appleton, the Rest home in Hancock, and for thirty years at Meadow Lane Care Center in Benson.
Deloris most enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, making sure everyone had enough sweet treats to keep them happy. She never talked about herself; she always wanted to know how others around her were doing. Her hobbies included baking, baking, baking, and take care of her rose garden, which she did with love. Her entire family has been recipients of her beautifully embroidered dish towels, which occupied her free time when she retired. A farm girl at heart, she worked hard all her life and was always inquiring about the status of the planting, crops, and harvest. She joined the St. Mark’s Ladies Guild, using her baking talents to provide smiles at many functions. She enjoyed traveling with the Zimmerman’s, fishing with the Lagred’s, and other trip “stuff like that”. She was proud of her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids, showering them with attention, love, and mushy “Stuff like that”! She was called from this life on Sunday morning January 12, at the Swift County Benson Hospital. She attained the age of 92 years, 11 months, and 27 days.
Deloris is survived by her husband Wilbert of Benson; her children: Bob (Maureen) Erdman of Benson and Sharon Grussing of Benson; her grandchildren Vicki (Bob) Schaefers of Burnsville, Bob (Sara) Erdman Jr. of Benson, Kim (Shari) Erdman of Rush City, Jennifer (Jason) Garberding of Willmar, and Brady Erdmann of Benson; her great-grandchildren: William, Kerrie, and Thomas Schaefers, Tyler (Tera) Erdman, Eric (Emily), Olivia, Isaac Erdman, Madison, Katelyn and Max Garberding; brothers LeRoy (Ruthie) Zimmerman of Missouri and Will (Sheila) Zimmerman of Edina; step brother: Marlo Zimmerman of Willmar; sisters-in-law: Ginny Zimmerman of Willmar and Rose Zimmerman of Nevada.
