Donald L Meyer

Donald Meyer, age 87, of Appleton, passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2022, in Appleton Area Health-Care Center.  Visitation will be 12:30-2:00 p.m., followed by the memorial service at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Appleton.  Burial will be in Appleton City Cemetery.  Pastor John Ramsbacher will officiate.

Donald Larston Meyer was born August 18, 1935, on the home farm in Shible Township, Swift County, Minnesota, the son of Dean and Ella (Shelstad) Meyer.  He was baptized and confirmed in Correll.  Donald was raised in the rural Appleton area and attended Appleton High School.  On November 11, 1956, he was united in marriage to Helen Audrey Hanson.  This union was blessed with 65 years together and three children: Michael, Bruce, and Melissa.  The couple raised their family on the home farm in Shible Township.

Donald enlisted in the Minnesota National Guard from 1953 to 1961, where he served with the 136 ^th Infantry Regiment Tank Company.  From a young age, it was clear that he was a farmer who took great pride in working his family’s land.  Donald was a long-time member of the Western Prairie Farm Collectors Tractor Club and was a life-long model train hobbyist.

Donald passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2022, in Appleton Area Health-Care Center.  He attained 87 years and 2 months of age.  Donald is survived by his wife, Helen Meyer of Appleton; his children: Michael (Juliet) Meyer of Appleton, Bruce Meyer of Appleton, and Melissa (Chris) VanHofwegen of Big Lake; his daughter-in-law, Alanna Rens of Appleton; his 5 grandchildren: Nicole Meyer, Jessica Dittes, Shaine VanHofwegen, Skyler VanHofwegen, and Logan VanHofwegen; his 4 great-grandchildren: Charles Rolfsmeier, Tyler Rolfsmeier, Helen Lhotka, and Donovan Dittes; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dean and Ella Meyer; and his sisters: Delores Wilkening and Louise Olson.
