Doris R. Beyer, 101, of Appleton, Minnesota, formerly of Holloway, Minnesota, died on Saturday morning, June 29, at the Appleton Nursing Home. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 5, 2024, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Holloway from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 pm. Burial will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery near Holloway. Zniewski Funeral Home-Vaala Chapelis assisting the family with the arrangements.
Over a century ago, Doris R. Beyer, was born. On March 26, 1923, she was born to Hartvig and Lena (Bjorgan) Thorson in Sisseton, South Dakota. She grew up in Appleton, Minnesota, starting school there in first grade. Upon graduation from Appleton High School, Doris attended Normal Training School in Madison and St. Cloud, Minnesota where she earned her teaching degree. She went on to teach for a few years in three different country schools in the Holloway area.
June 2, 1946, Doris married Vernon Beyer at Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton, Minnesota. They made their home in Holloway, Minnesota, and raised their children there.
Doris made the “best brownies and caramel rolls”. At Christmas time she liked baking and decorating Christmas cookies and loved to do other baking, too. She enjoyed music, sewing, gardening, and flowers. She was very proud of her Lupines. She also loved spending time with her family and playing whist on Sundays.
Doris is survived by her children: Dennis (Cheryl) Beyer of Danvers, Ronald (Julie) Beyer of Ortonville, Sharon (Gary) Nelson of Holloway, Janet (Jon) Proehl of Canton, SD, and Darlene (Brad) Oyen of Holloway; grandchildren: Chad (Tracy) Beyer, Brett (Desi) Beyer, Darren (Kari) Beyer, Danielle (Matt) Karels, Kenton (Becky) Nelson, Kelly (Tim) Haag, Matthew (Jodie) Nelson, Stewart Nelson, Sonya (Jake) Allpress, Bobbi Jo (Chad) Thury, Blake (Abby) Proehl, Mike Mellies, Connie Rose, and Tammy Louwagie; 33 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren; and sister Carol Iverson of Madison.
Preceding Doris in death were husband Vernon; parents Hartvig and Lena Thorson; parents-in-law Fred and Martha Beyer; infant son Wayne Beyer; brother Charles (Anna Mae) Thorson; sisters Elizabeth (Warren) Williamson, Harriet (Neil) Evans, and twin sister Delores Thorson; brother-in-law Vernon Iverson; grandsons Stanton Nelson and infant Micheal Nelson; infant great-great-granddaughter, Huntley Peterson.
