Dwight Eugene Whalberg

May 13, 1953 — April 21, 2021

Dwight Whalberg, age 67, of Benson, passed away April 21, 2021, in his home.  A graveside burial service will be held on Friday, July 2, 2021, at 1:30 p.m., in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Minnesota.  Members of his family will be saying a few words and song will be dedicated to him by his granddaughter on her violin.

Dwight Eugene Whalberg was born May 13, 1953, in Litchfield, Minnesota, the son of Warren and Marguerite (Binkly) Whalberg.  He graduated in Sauk Center, Class of 1972.  Dwight then enlisted in the Navy, where he ended up traveling around the world.  He retired from the Navy in 1994 after 22 years of service.  Upon retirement, he took some college classes and opened "The Candy Bouquet".  In the year 2000, Dwight moved back to Minnesota to be closer to his children.  Dwight enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing.  He also had a huge love of music and water…taking any chance he could get to "Go take a dip".  Dwight was very proud of his years in the Navy.  He was always telling stories of him and his Navy buddies from the good ole days!  Dwight always had a smile, he loved goofing off, and gave the greatest bear hugs.  More than anything, he loved spending time with his three children and was absolutely over the moon for his three grandchildren.

Dwight died peacefully at his home in Benson on April 21, 2021, at the age of 67.  He is survived by his children: Brandie (Jash) Evans, Ryan Whalberg, and Eric Whalberg; his three grandchildren: Jashua, Imagen and Oliver Evans; his sisters: Ruth Ring, Mary Thompson, Chip Rapp and Kriss Burns; his brother, Scott Whalberg; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Warren Whalberg; his mother, Marguerite Rapp; his step-father, Glen Rapp; his sister, Lanor Sopowiak; and his brother, William Whalberg.
