Elmer Frank Schliemann

Elmer Schliemann, age 92, of Appleton, passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2023, in Appleton Area Health-Care Center. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 11, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Appleton. Interment will be in Appleton City Cemetery. Pastor John Ramsbacher will officiate.

Elmer Frank Schliemann was born February 17, 1931, in Fairfield Township, Swift County, Minnesota, the son of Frank and Alma (Rohloff) Schlieman. He was baptized March 22,1931, and confirmed April 30,1944, at Fairfield Trinity Lutheran Church. He grew up in the Fairfield Township and Holloway area.  Elmer served in the United States Army from February 1953 to February 1955. After serving his country, he returned to farming. On April 2, 1955, Elmer was united in marriage to Audrey Pearl Byre and the couple settled on a farm in rural Holloway before moving to Appleton i n 1 996. This union was blessed with 64 years of marriage and 6 children: Gary, Infant daughter, Daniel, Diane, Karen, and Kevin.

After retiring from farming, Elmer worked for the City of Appleton doing grounds maintenance. Elmer loved farming, hunting, fishing, trapping, baseball, playing cards (especially Oh Hell! and s ma cking the card on the table when he took a trick ) , shaking dice, attending his children and grandchildren’s games and events . Elmer played baseball for years with his brothers and had a wicked curve ball. Elmer had the best stories and many funny sayings that made everyone laugh, especially his grandchildren and even himself.

Elmer passed away on May 3, 2023, at the Appleton Care Center. He attained 92 years, 2 months, and 16 days. Elmer is survived by his children: sons: Daniel (Jody) Schliemann of Savage MN and Kevin (Billy Ulibarri) Schliemann of Albuquerque NM; daughters: Diane (Pete) Wagener of Annandale MN, and Karen (Curtis) Lee of Wahpeton, ND; ten grandchildren: Jacob (Stephanie) Schliemann, Samuel Schliemann, Hannah Schliemann, Dylan Wagener, Logan Wagener, Madelyn Wagener, Jasmin Bahr, Chase Lee, Jesse Lee, and Chyann Lee; one great-grandchild, Avery Jentz; one sister, Valora Greseth of Apple Valley, MN; one brother, Harold (Lavonne) Schlieman of Morris, MN; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey (Byre) Schliemann on October 15, 2019; son Gary; infant daughter; parents, Frank and Alma (Rohloff) Schlieman; brothers: Harvey, Edgar (Lois) and Warren (Selma); sister: Marlys (Palmer) Greseth; brother-in-law, Verdie Greseth; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
