Evelyn Mae Morrell, 90, Benson, MN, died Sunday, January 21, 2024, at the St. Cloud Hospital. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, January 28, 2024, at Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ Church in Benson, MN. Visitation will continue from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 29, 2024, at Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ Church in Benson. Interment will be in the Benson City Cemetery. The arrangements are with Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson.

Evelyn Mae Morrell was born November 8, 1933, the daughter of Ole Peter Vollan and Susie Mary Reles Vollan, in Graceville, Minnesota. Evie was the youngest of eleven children. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, and grew up in Benson, attending country school through eighth grade.

In June of 1952, Evelyn married Clarence E. Mattheisen in a double wedding with their siblings - Evelyn’s brother married Clarence’s sister. Evelyn and Clarence had six children: Steven, Jeffrey, Susan, Don, Janet, and Hubert. On May 25, 1983, Evelyn married Kenneth Morrell in Elbow Lake, Minnesota. They shared 26 years of marriage before his passing in 2009.

Evie was a homemaker and worked as a waitress. She was very artistic and loved to sew, quilt, cross stitch, craft, make ceramics, and paint. She also enjoyed baking, canning, gardening, and bird watching, especially hummingbirds.

Evie passed away at the age of 90, at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota.

Evelyn is survived by her children: Steven Mattheisen of Glenwood, MN, Jeffrey (Sarah) Mattheisen of Morris, MN, Susan (Brian) Schmidt of New Fairview, TX, Janet (Kyle) Jenson of Monticello, MN, and Hubert (fiancé Linda) Mattheisen of Danvers, MN; eleven grandchildren: Jennifer (Chad) Hinz, Jacque (Mike) Christenson, Jacob (Sharon) Mattheisen, Jessica (Ryan) Gress, Luke (Hannah) Mattheisen, Katherine (Mike) Hollstrom, Sean Schmidt, Mitchell Schmidt, Brandon (Caitlin) Jenson, Cole (Elizabeth) Jenson, and Alicia (Tim) Quisberg; 18 great-grandchildren with one on the way; and many nieces and nephews.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Morrell, son Don E. Mattheisen at birth, and siblings: Albert, Mary, Clara, Lester, Gladys, Violet, Doris, Stanley, Floyd, and Leslie.
