Florence June Hillman

Florence June Hillman, age 95, of Appleton, passed away Monday, September 21, in Appleton Area Health –Care Center.  A graveside funeral service was held at 11 a.m., Friday, September 25, 2020, in Appleton City Cemetery.  Pastor John Ramsbacher officiated.

Florence June Hillman was born June 17, 1925, in Odessa Township, Big Stone County, Minnesota the daughter of William and Bertha (Sumner) Hinneberg.  She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Odessa.  Florence was raised in rural Odessa, where she attended Country School through the Eighth grade.  On October 18, 1953, she was united in marriage to Clarence Gust Hillman.  This union was blessed with over 57 years together.  The couple farmed together for many years in the Odessa area.  Florence enjoyed baking, gardening, and doing word searches…she was happiest when working in her garden!

She and Clarence hosted the Hinneberg Family Thanksgiving and Christmas for many years. Florence always made her pumpkin dessert.  The number of lives that they touched just through those gatherings alone are countless.  They also went fishing many times over the years and they brought with them: nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and even the great-greats! They had many, many nights, weeks, and even months of kids staying at their home.  Clarence and Florence attended birthdays, confirmations, weddings, anniversaries, and stopped by for coffee on countless occasions. They worked together on woodwork projects that are in many family homes today.  If you stopped at their house, Florence was sure to make coffee and kool-aid and serve you a summer sausage sandwich and some cookies.  Family was always welcome in their home.  Family meant the most to Florence and she was always generous with her time for family.

Florence passed away Monday, September 21, 2020, in Appleton Area Health –Care Center.  She attained 95 years, 3 months, and 4 days of age.  Florence is survived by her sister, Elaine (Gene) Dahl of Dawson; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence in 2011; her parents, William and Bertha Hinneberg; and her siblings: Clarence (Marie) Hinneberg, Inez (Emil) Meister, Thelma (Leroy) Hanson, Bernard (Lucille) Hinneberg, Jonetta (Lester) Kelly, Elmyra (Vern) Kittelson, and Loren (Constance) Hinneberg.  Blessed be the memory of Florence June Hillman.
