Fred Gerald Bennett, 92, of Pillager, Minnesota, formerly of Benson, died on Thursday morning, October 9, 2025, under the care of hospice, at A daughter’s love assisted living in Staples, Minnesota. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025, at 11:00 am, at the Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson. Burial will be in the Benson City Cemetery.
Fred Gerald Bennett was born on August 12, 1933, in Pope County, Minnesota, the son of Verniece Ray and Golda Altura Pratt Bennett. He grew up in the Benson Minnesota area. He served our country by enlisting in the United States Army.
On June 24, 1956, Fred united in marriage to Delores Birhanzel at St. Malachy Catholic Church in Clontarf. To this union one son and one daughter were raised. Together Fred and Delores were able to share over 48 years of marriage. Fred and Delores lived on the Iron Range for 36 years, where Fred worked for US Steel for 32 years. They then moved to Pillager, Minnesota.
Fred was a loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be dearly missed.
Fred is survived by his son Paul Bennett of Motley; his daughter Judy Svir of Brainerd; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife Delores on March 5, 2005, his parents Verniece and Golda, and a grand daughter Faith. Blessed be his memory.
