Throughout his life he was a devout Lutheran. He enjoyed traveling to visit his dear friends in the US as well as his children and grandchildren. Over his life he played baseball, softball, bowled in leagues as well as golfing and boating. He especially enjoyed his travels to his home state of Minnesota for fishing with family and friends. Over his desk is a poem which is a fitting closing to his long life of 86 years.

I pray that I may live to fish until my dying day ,

And when it comes to my last cast, I then most humbly pray

When in the Lord’s great landing net and peacefully asleep

Then in this mercy I be judged big enough to keep!
