Jerry Wersinger was born on February 15, 1945, in Hospers, Iowa, the son of Lawrence and Margaret Wersinger. At two weeks old, his family ventured to Danvers, Minnesota, to establish their family farm with the purchase of two quarters of land north of Danvers, Minnesota. The farmstead has been in the family now for more than 80 years.
Jerry was confirmed in the Catholic Faith at the Church of the Visitation in Danvers, Minnesota. He enlisted in the National Guard in 1963 and honorably discharged in 1966. On July 10, 1965, Jerry was united in marriage to Constance (Connie) Thorson of rural Starbuck, Minnesota. Jerry and Connie established their home in Danvers, Minnesota, where they happily raised their five children. Jerry often reminisced with family and friends indicating those were the “best years.”
Jerry farmed in the Danvers area with his father and brothers from the early age of 15. He continued with his operation until 1987, when he retired from farming at the early age of 42 years old. Connie and Jerry then moved to Benson, Minnesota. Jerry was employed by Swift County Implement in Sales until he fully retired.
Jerry and Connie were blessed with five children: Carrie Schnitzler of Alexandria, MN, Leah (Tim) Wilts of Alexandria, MN, Annie (Dan) Mitteness of Benson, MN, Molly Lundquist of Elk River, MN, and Brent (Mandee) Wersinger of Fargo, ND. Bringing Jerry much joy were his 12 grandchildren: Zach (Taylor) Schnitzler, Lauren (Dylan) Johnson, Spencer (Jessica) Wilts, Katie (Josh) Hedstrom, Landon Mitteness, Allie Mitteness, Abbie Mitteness, Mckenzie Lundquist, Avery Lundquist, Addison Lundquist, Halee Wersinger, and Maddison Wersinger. Jerry was blessed with ten great-grandchildren: Soren, Sam, Jack, Mara, Maeve, Carter, Brock, Brielle, Margaret, and Maya.
Jerry was known for his love of family, farming, yard work, and close friends. At the cornerstone of his heart, was Jerry’s family. Any decision Jerry made came with a full evaluation of how it would impact his family. He put his family’s desires ahead of his own. His family values were rooted deep and will live on for years to come. Jerry enjoyed spending time with family and friends at their lake home on Lake Scandi, winters in Arizona, golfing, helping his brother farm, early mornings with his coffee group, family dinners, meat raffles, and countryside drives looking at growing crops. Jerry was known locally for his well-manicured yard, green grass, and waxed cars. These traits have proudly been passed to his children and grandchildren.
Jerry is survived by his wife Connie, his five children and spouses, 12 grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, siblings Lavonne Lee, Donna (Ronnie) Ascheman, Wayne (Rita) Wersinger, Steve (Cindy) Wersinger.
Preceded in his death were his parents, Lawrence and Margaret Wersinger, son-in-law Chad Lundquist, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
