Grace Deette Selix

Grace DeEtte Selix, 99, died on Monday morning, December 2, 2019, at Homestead Place North in Benson. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on Friday December 6, at First Baptist Church in Benson, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am.  Interment will follow the service at the Benson City Cemetery.

Grace DeEtte Selix was born August 27, 1920 in Canby, Minnesota, the daughter of Frank and Emma Pauline (Chizek) Kapinos. She grew up in the Canby area for eleven years and then in the Benson area the rest of her life. She attended District 65 Country School, Benson High School for three years and graduated from Lincoln High School in Los Angeles, California. Grace was baptized October 21, 2001 by Rev. Dan Tomlinson at First Baptist Church in Benson.

On January 8, 1942, Grace was united in marriage to Elmer Mervin Selix in Benson by Rev. Roi Tibbetts. This union was blessed with fifty-nine years of marriage, one son and two grandsons. Grace and Elmer lived and farmed in Torning Township. Grace was a wonderful homemaker and was a member of the Torning Happy Homemakers Club. Among the many things she enjoyed were playing cards, dominoes, sewing (especially tailoring), knitting, crocheting, reading, and traveling.

Grace was called from this life on Monday, December 2, 2019, at Homestead Place North in Benson under Hospice care. She attained the age 99 years, 3 months and 5 days. She is survived by her son, Virgil (Joyce) Selix; grandsons, Warren (Ann) Selix and Aaron Selix; brother-in-law, Bert (Ovonne) Selix; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Emma Kapinos; and husband, Elmer Selix on June 30, 2001.

“Weep not for me friends though death do us sever. I am going to do nothing for ever and ever.”
