Helen Mae Olson was born April 5, 1929, at home, in Pope County, Minnesota, the daughter of Emil and Ingeborg (Nelson) Aslakson. She was baptized on April 28, 1929, at West Zion Lutheran Church and was also later confirmed there. Helen was raised on the home farm in Pope County, near the Midway Store. On December 17, 1949, Helen was united in marriage to Elmer Oliver Olson, by Rev. Palmer at the West Zion Parsonage. This union was blessed with nearly 52 years together and three sons: Michael, Stanley, and Leslie.
Helen attended country school in District # 51. On May 22, 1984, she attained her G.E.D. in Granite Falls, which she was very proud of. Helen was a Homemaker and a Farm Wife, helping milk cows and doing many of the farm chores that needed to be done. She worked at Future Products for many years, and also was custodian of Swift County Bank and First Security Bank from 1974 to 1994. She taught Sunday school at both Lake Hazel and Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church and was also a past President and Vice President of ORW. Helen enjoyed making quilts, doing puzzles, playing cards, hosting birthday parties, and watching television. She also loved babysitting her grandchildren.
Helen passed away Friday, August 27, 2021, at Meadow Lane Nursing Home in Benson. She attained 92 years, 4 months, and 22 days of age. Helen is survived by her sons: Stan (Diana) Olson of Benson and Les (Cleo) Olson of Emerald, WI; daughter in-law, Cindy Olson of Milbank, SD; her 7 grandchildren: Heather (Justin) LeClair, Jason (Monica) Olson, Aaron (Holly) Olson, Deryk (Mallory) Olson, Nathan (Jillian) Olson, Seth Olson and Tanner Nelson; her 15 great-grandchildren: Peyton, Hunter, and Carter LeClair, Gavin, Carson, Macoy and Griffin Olson, Bentley, Brooke and Riley Olson, Olivia and Oliver Olson, and Evarie, Ivelyn and Ovander Olson; her sister, Margaret (Cyrus) Swenson of Sartell; and her nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Ingeborg Aslakson; her husband, Elmer Olson in 2001; her son Michael Olson in 2004; her sister, Evelyn Russell, and her brother, Floyd Aslakson.
