James Edward Sandmeyer, 65, was born on February 6, 1954, in Benson, Minnesota, the son of Herman Edward and Margaret Helen (Tiffany) Sandmeyer. He grew up in Benson and graduated from Benson Senior High School. Jim served his country by joining the United States Air Force.
On November 7, 1982, James was united in marriage to Sheila Jacobson at his mother’s home in Benson. This union was blessed with over 37 years of marriage. He worked as a carpenter and later for Case IH in Benson. They lived in Royalton, Minnesota for a while then returned to Benson. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, and archery. He looked forward to tending his garden each summer especially taking care of the tomato plants. He was called from this life on Wednesday morning, January 1, 2020 at the Swift County Benson Hospital.
He is survived by his wife Sheila of Benson; two children Todd (Andrea) Tongen of Denver, Colorado and Stephanie (Joe) Doss of Houston, Texas; grandchildren Nicole, Cory, Josh, Sydney, Tori, and Michael; great grandchildren Aubriana, Tatum, Adeline, and Elaina; sisters Sue (Wayne) Pfuhl of Jensen Beach, Florida and Nancy (Jack) Wojciak of Moundsview; a sisters in law Donna Sandmeyer of Glenwood and Reva Sandmeyer of California; and nieces, nephews, and several other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Herman and Margaret, brothers, Don, Dan, and David, and a granddaughter Christina Tongen. Blessed be his Memory.
A memorial service honoring the life of James Sandmeyer will be held later this summer.
