Jane Ellen Lee was born July 16, 1949, at the Swift County Benson Hospital, the daughter of Walter W. Vergin and Esther (Kolstad) Vergin. She was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church and confirmed by Pastor Hergisheimer at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Benson. She was a member of Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson.
Jane grew up on a farm in Cashel Township, outside of Benson, in Swift County, attending Country School District 71 and Benson High School. April 6, 1968, she married Edward Lee at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, officiated by Pastor Meishner. To this union four children were born: Evan, Eric, Jenny, and Jacob.
Jane was a homemaker on the farm. The next chapter of her life came in 1997 when she moved to Benson and worked at First Security Bank. The last nine years of her life, Jane resided in Glenwood, Minnesota. She cherished being with her seven grandchildren. She loved taking them to the library, movies, swimming, baking, coloring, or attending as many of their special events over the years as she could. They were her greatest joy.
Jane enjoyed baking, reading, sewing, knitting, crocheting, putting puzzles together, and going to the movies. She loved and looked forward to her “sisters’ weekend” every year that she took with her sisters. This was a big treat for her with many incredible adventures and memories made.
We will deeply miss the warmth of her smile, the tenderness of her sweet voice and laugh, and the warm embrace of her hugs.
Jane is survived by her children: Evan (Beverly) Lee of DeGraff, Eric (Jessica) Lee of Glenwood, Jenny (Jon) Klassen of Glenwood, and Jacob (Katherine) Lee of Granite Falls; seven grandchildren: William and Magnus Lee, Dane and Owen Lee, Sydney and Dylann Klassen, and Saul Lee; siblings: Joan Johnson of Boulder City, NV, Ramona (Walter) Young of Benson, Roger (Shirley) Vergin of Plato, Dennis Vergin of Minneapolis, Donald (Nancy) Vergin of Benson, David Vergin of DeGraff, and Gail (Rodney) Skowronek of Forest Lake.
Jane was preceded by her parents Walter and Esther Vergin; brothers: Floyd, Gary, and Gene (Charles) Vergin; sister and brother-in-law Linda and Kenneth Carstens; brother-in-law Jerry Johnson; nephews: Griff Johnson, Gill Johnson, and James Vergin; and niece Baby Girl Johnson.
