Janice Timm, age 97, of Appleton passed away Friday, December 8, 2023, in Appleton Area Health-Care Center. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m., followed by the memorial service at 11 a.m., Tuesday, January 16, 2024 , at First United Methodist Church in Appleton. Jan Eifealdt will officiate. Interment will be in Appleton City Cemetery.
Janice Marie Kern Timm was born on July 11, 1926, to Lawrence and Florence (Sherman) Kern. She was the oldest of five and grew up on a farm by Olivia, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist Church and graduated from Olivia High School. She was a child of the Depression and would often share memories from that era.
Janice enjoyed traveling and working in different places with her sister and best friend Betty Lou. She went to college at St. Cloud State and got her teaching degree. Her first job was in Kerkhoven as an elementary teacher. She then taught in Appleton. It was there she met the love of her life Dick Timm. They were married on October 25, 1953, and were blessed with over 63 years of marriage, and four children: Debbie, Terry, Renee, and Robert. Jan continued to teach, raise children, and attend college while Dick farmed north of Appleton.
Dick and Jan enjoyed bowling, card playing, golfing, and traveling. Jan loved to draw, sketch, and craft. They both loved time spent with family and friends. Janice was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church, Methodist Women’s Group, VFW Auxiliary, Appleton Golf Club, many card clubs and bowling teams.
Upon retirement, Dick and Janice moved to town and continued to travel and enjoy family and friends. They were blessed with six grandchildren and spent quality time with them… loving every minute. Later in life, Jan was doubly blessed with five great-grandchildren.
Janice joined Dick in heaven on December 8, 2023, at the age of 97 years and five months. Just in time to spend her favorite holiday with her favorite person.
Janice is survived by her children: Debbie Reimnitz of Kalispell, MT, Terry Walker of Appleton, MN, Renee (Bo) Olson of Pillager, MN, and Robert Timm of Woodleaf, NC; six grandchildren: Rick (Maggie) Walker, Chris (Eunhee) Walker, Curt (Michelle) Reimnitz, Zach Reimnitz, Rachel Reimnitz, and Tanner Olson; five great-grandchildren: Madilyn, McKenna, Elsie, and Lillian Walker, and Chase Reimnitz; siblings: Sally Johnson and Shirley Visser; step-mother-in-law Lil Kern; sister-in-law Esther Timm; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Janice was preceded in death by her husband Richard “Dick” Timm, parents Lawrence and Florence Kern, parents-in-law Curt and Alma Timm, siblings: Doug (Wanda) Kern, Betty (Stub) Scholtes, in-laws: Ted Visser, Don Johnson, Tom (Judy)Timm, Harry Timm, Mary (Lloyd) Dedon, John “Fritz” Timm, nephews: David Scholtes, Chad Timm, Michael Johnson, and Danny Kern.
