Joan Wente, age 81, of Appleton, passed away Friday, June 16, 2023, in Appleton Area Health-Care Center. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Monday, June 26, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Appleton. Visitation will continue from 10-11 a.m., followed by the memorial service at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at the church. Pastor John Ramsbacher will officiate. Interment will be in Appleton City Cemetery.

Joan Faye Wente was born June 19, 1941, in Morris, Minnesota, the daughter of George Warren and Ethel June (McCoy) Blair. She was baptized November 28, 1943, and was confirmed May 20, 1956, both at Good Shepherd “Drywood” Lutheran Church. Joan was raised in the Chokio area, where she attended school through the 11th Grade. Her family moved to the Appleton area, and she graduated from Appleton High School, Class of 1960. On October 20, 1963, Joan was united in marriage to Gillard “Johnnie” Wente at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. This union was blessed with 40 years together and four children: John, Pamela, Susanne, and Michael. During her working years Joan was employed at: Fairfield Store, Don's Super Value, Ascheman Oil, Appleton Nursing Home, and Subway. Joan enjoyed gardening, baking, jigsaw puzzles, bird watching, playing cards, and sewing.

Joan passed away Friday, June 16, 2023, in Appleton Area Health-Care Center. She attained 81 years, 11 months, and 28 days of age. Joan is survived by her children: John (Angie) Wente of Appleton, Pam (Roger) Moran of Svea, Susanne Wente of Aberdeen, SD, and Mike (Kelly) Wente of Dawson; her grandchildren: Dustin (Crystal) Moran, Chelsey (Brandon) Thompson, Abby (Ryan) Nelson, Jamie (Cody) Hager, Ashley (special friend, Jeremy) Wente, Jacob (fiancée, Mikayla) Wente, Ariel Wente-Nolan, Morgan Wente, MaKaylee Wente, and Madalyn Wente; her great-grandchildren: Kylie, Taryn, and Bryson Moran, Henry Thompson, Blake and Lyla Nelson, and Cayden and Mallory Hager; her sisters: Nancy Koepp of Willmar, and Rebecca Fredrickson of Luck, WI; her sister-in-law, Lucille Paul of Spokane, WA; and her nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gillard Wente on May 25, 2004; her parents, George and June Blair; her sister, Judy (Milton) Nybakke; her sister-in-law, Gladys (Willard) Christenson; and her brothers-in-law: Palmer Paul and Doug Koepp.
