Karen Kay Syverson, age 76, of Murdock, died Saturday, January 9, 2021, under Hospice care at the Swift County-Benson Hospital. A Private family service will be held at Hope Lutheran Church in Sunburg, MN with a graveside service held at a later date. Zniewski Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
Karen Kay Syverson was born on July 30, 1944, in Willmar, Minnesota, the daughter of Lloyd and Adeline (Sorenson) Paulson. She was baptized and confirmed at West Norway Lake Lutheran Church. She grew up in rural Sunburg, attending country school and high school in Kerkhoven – Sunburg, and earned her Bachelor degree at St. Cloud State. On September 22, 1979, Karen was united in marriage to Kevin Syverson on the home farm. This union was blessed with over 41 years of marriage.
During her working years, Karen worked as a Bank Teller, Bookkeeper, Loan Officer, Underwriter, Compliance Auditor, and Closing Agent. She was employed by Farmers State Bank of New London, where she was Vice President for nine years; Bremer Bank, Heritage Bank, Hancock Bank, and Anderson & Burgett Law Office. Karen was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Sunburg, a Hospice volunteer, a member of the Monson Lake Memorial Board, and a member of the Swift County Historical Society. She was involved in many church functions including: playing the organ and the piano, singing in the Hope Choir, and Ladies Aid. Her love of music guided her into service as a piano teacher in Rush City, Montevideo, Shakopee, and New London. She enjoyed gardening, being at the lake, traveling, baking, reading, and interior design. Karen loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Karen was called from this life on Saturday morning, January 09, 2021, at the Swift County Benson Hospital. She attained the age of 76 years, 5 months, and 9 days. Karen is survived by her husband Kevin, of Murdock; her children: Chris Gallagher of Murdock, Kelly Gallagher of Murdock, Corey (Sam) Gallagher of Danvers, Katie (Nathan) Guse of Kerkhoven, and Craig (Anne) Syverson of Cold Spring; her 6 grandchildren: Brady, Bryce, Bria, Shania Jo, Bentley, and Jacoby; her siblings: Joan (Scott) Wilcox of St. Cloud, Diane (Dean) Shuck of Sunburg, Shirley (Dave) Simmonds of Brooten, Dean Paulson of Sunburg, and LuAnn (Mike) Schmitz of Las Vegas, Nevada; her sisters-in-law, Charlene Paulson and Suzanne Paulson, both of Brooten; nieces, nephews, and several other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Adeline Paulson; and her brothers: Wayne and Larry Paulson. Blessed be her memory.
