Kenneth "Butch" Hoffman

November 25, 1939 — December 21, 2020

Kenneth “Butch” Hoffman, age 81, of Holloway, passed away Monday in Meadow Lane Health Care Center in Benson.  Visitation will be held from Noon-1 p.m., followed by a funeral at 1 p.m., Monday, December 28, 2020, at Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton.  Pastor Roger Fears will officiate.  Burial will be in Appleton City Cemetery.

Kenneth Raymond Hoffman “Butch” was born on November 25, 1939, to Ray and Isabelle (Beyer) Hoffman.  He was born on his parent’s farm in Marysland Township, Swift County, Minnesota.  When he was just a toddler, one of his uncles (either Harold or Howard, maybe both) gave him the name “Butch” and it was his name for the remainder of his life!  Many friends never knew exactly what his name was.  All they may have known was “K. R.”

Butch was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church - Fairfield.  He attended Country School at District 99 and was always proud of his Country School education.  He attended the West Central School of Agriculture, graduating in 1957.  Working alongside his dad on the family farm, Butch learned the value of hard work and common sense.  He also learned a few life lessons that weren’t shared with his sisters.  In his early teens, he was injured in a farm accident that broke his back.  With a lot of motherly care, he survived and went on to spend his life trucking, making friends, and telling stories.  He had a story about almost everything.  His family always heard about his adventures of his days on the road.  He traveled throughout the country and was very proud of his profession.  He loved every one of his trucks and to this day has framed pictures of every truck he ever owned in his home office.  He could tell you everything you never wanted to know about every one of them.  In his lifetime, he owned more cars and pickups than a typical used car lot.

After his retirement from trucking, he sold trailers and managed grounds for West-Con.  Butch served in the National Guard, was on both the Zion Lutheran Church Council and the Holloway City Council for many years and was proud to be a Shriner.

Butch was blessed with his children: Dr. LaVae Hoffman, David Hoffman, and Ron Hoffman from his marriage to Patricia Cain and Jim (Becky) Hoffman, and Theresa Hoffman Vogel (Mike Leppa) from his marriage to Barbara Schwartz as well as his step-children Mike (Roseanne) Hoffman, Terry (Mike) Shahan, Brad ( Mysti) Burns, and Beven (Jamie) Burns from his marriage to Beverly Burns; by a multitude of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his three sisters: Gwen (Harvey) Schwarz, Rhoda (Doug) Miller, and Ruth Ann (Brian) Karty; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded to the gates of Heaven by his parents, Ray and Isabelle Hoffman; his beloved wife of 20 years, Beverly; his brother-in-law, Irvin Williams; his nephew, Matt Karty; several aunts, uncles, and assorted relatives; and by many treasured friends.

Down all the highways that you travel, Blacktop, stone, and even gravel, On every journey through and through, May God’s Angels ride with you.  Blessed be the memory of Kenneth “Butch” Hoffman.
