Leroy "Sonny” L. Smith

LeRoy “Sonny” Lee Smith, age 88, of Benson, MN, died Thursday, December 24, 2020, at Meadow Lane Nursing Home in Benson. Visitation will be held from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm on Monday March 1, 2021, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 pm at  Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson. Interment was in the Benson City Cemetery. Wearing a mask and social distancing will be adhered to.

LeRoy Lee Smith, age 88, was born on January 4, 1932 in Benson, MN, the son of LeLand and Edna (Heschke) Smith. He grew up and attended school in Benson, MN until the 8 ^th grade. He was Baptized and Confirmed in the Lutheran Faith.

LeRoy was united in marriage to Deloris C. Kliche on October 13, 1951 at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson, MN. They were united in marriage for over 69 years. LeRoy worked for BNSF until retiring after 38 years of service. Over his life, LeRoy enjoyed many hobbies such as his hobby farm, ice fishing, hunting and playing cards. He also enjoyed spending time and being with his family.

LeRoy is survived by his wife: Deloris Smith of Benson, MN; son: David (Julie) Smith of Benson, MN; daughter: Diane (Tom) Wyffels of Benson, MN; grandchildren: Aaron (Sonja) Smith, Sonya (Greg) Pobuda, and Charlene (Kent) Coners; nine great grandchildren; sister: Viola Jones of St. Cloud, MN.

LeRoy is preceded in death by his parents: LeLand and Edna (Heschke) Smith; grandson: Jamie Wyffels, and granddaughter: Jessica Smith, sister: Dorothy Everson, brother: Larry Smith.

Arrangements are with Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson.
