Louise Ida Fischer

November 25, 1929 — April 9, 2020

UPDATED SERVICE DETAILS: Louise Fischer, age 90, of Appleton, formerly of the Holloway area, passed away Thursday morning, April 9, 2020, in Appleton Area Health –Care Center.  A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 23, 2021, at Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton.  Bishop Craig Anderson will officiate.

Louise Ida Fischer was born November 25, 1929 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the daughter of Otto and Ida (Schuerman) Reich. She was baptized December 29, 1929 at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Minneapolis and was confirmed on May 9, 1943 by Rev. Meichsner at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Holloway.

Louise grew up in the Holloway area during the Great Depression.  She attended country school and attended Appleton High School. Louise was working as a waitress when she met LeRoy Fischer, they were married the day before her 17 th birthday, on November 24, 1946 by Rev. Walters at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Holloway.  Louise and LeRoy farmed together in rural Holloway for over 50 years.  They loved to go dancing with friends, walking across the farm, and working side by side. Together they raised five children: Sherry, Donald, Carol, Jane, and Patricia.  She was an avid gardener – tending vegetables surrounded by the beauty of annual flowers.  She and LeRoy went to Apache Junction, Arizona annually for about 15 years, to escape the rigors of Minnesota winters.  After leaving the farm, she lived in Appleton for several years, the last few in the Appleton Nursing home.

She taught us (her children) to pray, the true meaning of unconditional love, and instilled in us her faith in God.  Louise taught the value of a hard day’s work, to respect ones elders, community and country.  Many fond memories of gardening, canning, and working along at her side…as well sharing many a card game, board game, dice or puzzle assembly.

Louise was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Moyer Township.  She taught Sunday school for many years, belonged to the Women of the Church, attending and leading bible studies.  Louise helped sew many donated quilts.  She enjoyed visiting with family on the phone and receiving mail.

Louise was called to her eternal home on Maundy Thursday, April 9, 2020.  She had struggled for several weeks but in the end passed peacefully in her sleep.  Louise is survived by her children: Donald (Diane) Fischer of Appleton, Carol (Mike) Banken of South Haven, Jane (Raymond) Johnson of Morris, and Patricia (Richard) Bahl of Maple Grove; son-in-law, AJ Wentler of Morris; 19 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren; siblings: Verena Fischer, Florence Bruehling, Charles (Marlene) Reich, Dorothy Hoffman, Lila (David) Brown; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy Fischer; her daughter, Sherry Ann (Beyer) Wentler; her parents; her brothers:  Harold and his wife Arlene Reich, Edwin and wife Charlene Reich, Clarence and his wife Ruby Reich, Lawrence and Donald Reich; brothers-in-law: Tom Bruehling and Roger Hoffman.

Blessed be the memory of Louise Ida Fischer.
