Maria Christine Hanson

Maria Christine Hanson, 32, of Hendricks, Minnesota, formerly of Benson, Minnesota, died on Friday evening, September 23, 2022, at Sanford Hospital in Canby, Minnesota. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in DeGraff, Minnesota, and will continue Thursday, September 29, 2022, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. A meal will follow the mass at the DeGraff Pub. A private interment service will be held at Lake Hazel Cemetery in rural Benson. Maria Christine Hanson was born on October 12, 1989, in Benson, Minnesota, the daughter of Bradley and Jean Simmonds Hanson. She was baptized by Father Stein at the St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in DeGraff and confirmed by Father Steven Verhelst at St. Francis Catholic Church in Benson. She grew up in Benson and graduated from Benson Senior High School. She attended South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota and obtained her Master’s degree in school counseling through Capella University. She then worked as a mental health practitioner at the Win Academy at Minnewaska Schools and for the Minnesota Autism Center, and she completed her internship working in the Benson School System. Maria was just starting her second year as school Counselor in Hendricks, Minnesota. She took great pride in working with her students.

Maria loved her son Joey and was passionate in spending time with him and showing him everything life has to offer. She enjoyed reading, journaling, and outside activities. She enjoyed softball and baseball and was looking forward with great anticipation to see which activities Joey would participate in. 4-wheeling with Joey, Mitch, Presley, and Shean, they brought great joy to Maria. Maria’s love for her family was endless. She cherished times with her family at the cabin on Lake Minnewaska. She loved spending Sunday afternoons at the farm and going to see her grandparents at the hill. Time spent making memories with Brent & Chelsey, Jenna & Trevor and her family was an important part of her life.

Maria loved to cook and became quite the chef. She lived life to the fullest and her smile would brighten up a room. Her love for sunsets was special, especially the ones at Lake Minnewaska. Upon her move to Hendricks, Maria found a place she and Joey fondly called home. This community meant so much to her. She was called from this life on Friday evening, September 23, 2022, at the Sanford Medical Center in Canby, Minnesota. She attained the age of 32 years, 11 months, and 19 days.

She is survived by her son Joey Huston; her fiancé Mitch Thompson and his children Shean and Presley; her parents, Brad and Jean Hanson of Benson; her siblings Brent (Chelsey) Hanson of Benson, and Jenna (Trevor) Ahlbrecht of Hector, her grandparents Joseph and Carol Simmonds of DeGraff; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and other relatives. She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Derald and Harriet Hanson, an uncle Kurt Simmonds, and an aunt Kimberly Hanson. Blessed be her memory.
