Marian Irene Stromswold

Marian Stromswold, age 96, of Appleton, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 4, 2020, in Appleton Area Health-Care Center.  A private, family graveside service will be held in Appleton City Cemetery.  Pastor Roger Fears will officiate.

Marian Irene Stromswold was born on October 13, 1924, the daughter of Palmer and Anna Anderson. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Appleton.  She graduated from Appleton High School in 1942.  She married the love of her life, Maury Stromswold, on September 22, 1946, at Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton. To this union, three children were born.

Marian was quick with numbers and a master at shorthand, which she used in her job as a bookkeeper at Heinecke Implement and Federal Land Bank.  She was very active at Zion Lutheran, teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, and advising Luther League.  Marian also served on the city library board and hospital auxiliary.   She loved playing bridge, watching sports, and spending as much time with her family as possible.  When their son, Mark, took over their Culligan business, Marian and Maury enjoyed their retirement years together. They wintered in Florida and took trips to Europe and Asia. She loved collecting pieces along their travels to decorate their home.

Marian suffered a stroke in 2012 and moved to the nursing home at that time. Although the stroke affected her speech, it did not affect her kind heart or great love for her family.  Her smile was the biggest when she was with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She could watch them lovingly for hours.

On December 4th, Marian passed away peacefully at the Appleton Area Health- Care Center.  She is survived by her son, Mark (Linda) Stromswold; her grandchildren, Meagan (Matt) Retterath, Katie (Ryan) Anderson, and Jeff (Amy) Stromswold; her great-grandchildren, Jackson and Rory Retterath, Olive and Frances Anderson, and Palmer Stromswold; her brother Bob Anderson; and her sisters-in-law, Harriet Anderson and Lorraine Stromswold.

Marian was preceded in death by her infant daughter in 1957, her daughter, Patricia, in 1970, and her husband, Maury, in 1996. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Wally, Wendell, and Virgil.
