Marie A. Young, 79, of Benson, died on Wednesday evening July 3, 2024, at the Bethesda Grand Nursing Home in Willmar. A visitation will be held on Friday July 12th 2024, from 9:30 am to 11:00 am at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Benson, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am. The Burial will be in the Benson City Cemetery. Zniewski Funeral Home of Benson is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Marie Ann Young was born on January 20, 1945, in Benson, Minnesota, the daughter of Milo Landmark and Doris Vollan Landmark Rasmussen. She was baptized at West Bank Lutheran Church on March 4, 1945, by Pastor Palmer and she was confirmed at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson. She grew up in Benson and graduated from Benson Senior High School with the class of 1963.
Marie embraced her role as a housewife raising the children and helping on the farm. When the family moved to Texas in 1982, she worked at Dillard’s Department Store Corporate office and also a gourmet coffee shop called What’s Cooking. Then she was a cook at Breen’s and for Butch’s catering in Benson.
Marie was united in marriage to Robert Young on July 6, 1963, by the Rev. Melvin Sucher in Benson, Minnesota. They made their home on a farm south of Benson. This union was blessed with over 50 years of marriage and five children. They sold the farm in 1982 and moved to Texas, returning to Benson in 1990 where they lived until their retirement. She was a member of the Lion’s Club, the Women’s Bowling Association, Farm Bureau, and the Trinity Lutheran Church Ladies’ Aid. She enjoyed camping, reading, cooking, gardening, golfing, and bowling. Marie loved to spend time with her family and friends. She was called from this life on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at the Bethesda Grand Nursing Home in Willmar. She attained the age of 79 years, 5 months, and 14 days.
Marie is survived by her children, Lisa (Tim) Slaughter of Murdock, Sherry Roberts of Benson, Cynthia Woods of Springtown, Texas, Tim (Racquel) Young of Livermore, California, and Stephanie Boom of Willmar; her grandchildren, Christopher Lassiter, Amanda Bluhm, Eric Roberts, Blair Solis, Kira Young, and Jeremy Richmond; her great grandchildren, Bryce, Connor, and Norah Lassiter, Teagan and Taelynn Bluhm, Aiden Roberts, and Quincy Richmond; her siblings Donna (Ramon) Solt of St. Michael, Gary (Julie) Landmark of Benson, and Bruce (Julie) Landmark of Benson, and several other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her Husband Robert on August 11, 2019, her parents Milo and Doris, in-laws Ernest and Agnes, her siblings Donald, Allen and George, sisters-in-law Judy Wilder and Jackie Young, and a grandson Brandon Meyer.
