Marlene grew up in rural Appleton, attended country school through elementary school, and graduated from Appleton High School. After graduation, she worked as a secretary at Northwestern National Life Insurance Company in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
April 14, 1962, Marlene married Roger Stanley Boraas at Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton. Together they shared 62 years of marriage and raised three children: Denise, Brian, and Brent. Marlene was a devoted housewife, mother, and grandmother. She helped Roger on the farm along with supporting and attending her children’s events. Even after they graduated from high school, she continued to listen to local high school sporting events on the radio. Marlene was an excellent cook/baker and was well known for her bread making. She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in numerous ways. When she wasn’t busy with all of that , Marlene could be found in front of her sewing machine and quilting. Card Club and Birthday Club provided her with fun and laughter with her friends. She and Roger also enjoyed snowmobile trips and dancing anytime a good two-step was playing. Marlene was always happy to lend a helping hand.
