Marvin Koosman, age 79, of Appleton, passed away Monday, April 3, 2023, in Quiet Oaks Hospice House in St. Cloud. Kay Koosman, age 79, of Appleton, passed away Sunday, February 12, 2023, in the St. Cloud Hospital. Visitation for Marv and Kay will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life service at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton. Interment will be in Appleton City Cemetery. Pastor Linda Wimmer will officiate.
Marvin Carl Koosman was born September 27, 1943, at the Benson Hospital to Fredrick and Dorothea (Riba) Koosman. He was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church rural Holloway and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton. Marv was raised on a farm near Holloway. He attended school in Holloway until the 8th grade, when he transferred to Appleton High School where he graduated, Class of 1961. On September 7, 1963, he was united in marriage to Kay M. Peterson in Clinton. This union was blessed with three children: Todd, Kristen, and Tracy. The couple lived in Appleton their entire 59 years of married life.
After graduation he worked for Donaldson's Department Store in Minneapolis and then moved back to Appleton where he worked for the Midland Fertilizer Plant and later became the manager. Midland was bought out by Land O'Lakes and eventually owned by West-Con where he worked until 1989. He then worked for Overholt Insurance Company as an insurance crop adjuster for two years. Then he worked for Rain & Hail as an insurance crop adjuster for 2 years until he was hired back at West-Con, as an agronomist, until the end of 1999. He then worked for the City of Appleton until his retirement in 2008. He came out of retirement and drove a regional bus for the Prairie Five RIDES program in the City of Appleton and retired from this in the spring of 2013.
Marv served on the Appleton City Council in the 1970's and served on the Appleton Fire Department for 30 years. He was on the board of directors for the Appleton Golf Club and Swift County Fair Board. Marv loved sports and played on softball teams, enjoyed playing golf and watched sporting events on TV. He attended sporting events for his children when they went to high school. He also attended sporting events for all eight grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them whenever he could. He enjoyed fishing and went on many fishing trips to Canada and northern Minnesota. He took the grandchildren fishing every chance he got and enjoyed that very much.
Marv passed away Monday, April 3, 2023, in Quiet Oaks Hospice House in St. Cloud at the age of 79. He is survived by his children: Todd (Julie) Koosman of Chaska, Kristen Kritzeck (Craig Brose) of Howard Lake, and Tracy (Lisa) Koosman of Appleton; five grandchildren: Logan (Hatti) Kritzeck, Megan Koosman, Gavin Kritzeck, Andrew Koosman, and Braden Koosman; two step-grandchildren: Colby (PJ) Judovsky and Austin Judovsky; one great-granddaughter, LaRayah Judovsky; sister, Doris (Roger) Moen; sisters-in-law: Gloria (Paul) Schultz, Cheryl (John) Bain, Pat (Brad) Duhr, Peggy (Scott) Duske; brothers-in-law: Greg (Shelley) Peterson and Lowell Zellman; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Kay Koosman on February 12, 2023; his parents; his paternal and maternal grandparents; brothers: Dennis Koosman and Myron (Elenore) Koosman; sister, Marlys (Arnie) Longnecker; step-grandson, Caleb Judovsky; and sister-in-law, Diane Zellman. Blessed be the memory of Marvin “Marv” Koosman.
