Merlin Schulz, age 92, of Holloway, passed away Saturday, December 16, 2023, in his home. A visitation will be held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at Zniewski Funeral Home-Vaala Chapel in Appleton. No formal service will be held. A private family interment will be held at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Moyer Township.
Merlin Emil Schulz was born on April 16, 1931, to Emil and Beata Bertha (Hamann) Schulz. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian Faith. He grew up in Holloway and attended school through eighth grade. On January 3, 1950, he married Ruby Reich of Holloway.
Merlin farmed from 1950 to 1968. He then moved to Holloway. He worked for Tylers, drove school bus for several years, picked sweet corn for Big Stone Canning Co., hauled peas for Lakeside Foods in Brooten, ran Schulz Tree Service, worked for the Swift County Highway Department for 20 years, and helped Roger Stotts farm. He was also the mayor of Holloway for 20 years. Merlin was interested in camping, fishing, woodworking, and watching rodeos on TV.
Merlin passed away Saturday, December 16, 2023, in his home, at the age of 92. Merlin is survived by his wife Ruby, his children: Linda (James) Molden of Benson, Gary (Janice) Schulz of Holloway, Larry (Debra) Schulz of Holloway, Patty Barber of Willmar, David Schulz of Holloway, Bonnie (Doug) Wall of New London; 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Merlin was preceded in death by his parents Emil and Beata Schulz; brothers: Albin (Susie) Schulz, Dennis (Valetta) Schulz; sisters: Florene (Leonard) Matthis, Della (Roy) Giese: son-in-law Steve Barber, granddaughter Brittany Schulz, daughter Connie and infant daughter, and infant grandson. Blessed be the memory of Merlin Emil Schulz.
