Myrtella Carola Christenson was born on January 17, 1926, in Arctander Township, Kandiyohi County, near Sunburg, Minnesota, the daughter of Axel and Ida Louise (Amb) Aasen. She was baptized on January 29, 1926 at East Norway Lake Lutheran Church by Pastor H. E. Baalson and confirmed on June 11, 1939, at East Norway Lake Lutheran Church by Pastor H. E. Baalson. She grew up in the Sunburg area, attended grade school at District #23 in Arctander Township, Kandioyhi County, and graduated from New London High School in 1944. After graduation she worked at Pennock Creamery, Fingerhut and for the United Telephone Company in Benson.
On March 1, 1948, Myrtella was united in marriage to Alvin Arthur Christenson at the East Norway Lake Parsonage in New London, Minnesota by Pastor N.J. Njus. Together they shared in over 53 years of marriage. She lived and worked on the farm with her husband in Swenoda Township in Swift County. They moved to Benson in 1991.
Myrtella enjoyed genealogy, reading, attending auction sales, and visiting with family, friends, and neighbors. Alvin and Myrt enjoyed numerous bus trips with Rustad Bus Tours, traveling to 48 states. She was called from this life on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at Bethesda Grand Nursing Home in Willmar. She attained the age of 96 years, 11 months, and 10 days.
She is survived by her daughters; Janice Baranczyk, of Oconto Falls, Wisconsin, Dianne Christenson of Willmar, and Susan Nokleby of Montevideo; her grandchildren Gregory (Bonnie) Baranczyk of Seymour, Wisconsin, Katie Jo Baranczyk of Oconto Falls, Wisconsin, Jessica (Kaleb) Schwendemann of Benson, and Adam Nokleby of Benson; her great grandchildren: Jeremiah (Hailey) Baranczyk, Chester, Elijah Baranczyk, Elsa, Esmae, and Emersyn Schwendemann; her siblings John Aasen of Clifford, North Dakota, and Thelma (Mark) Johnson of Minneapolis; nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends. She is preceeded in death by her husband Alvin on August 19, 2001, her parents Axel and Louise, granddaughter Christina Baranczyk, three brothers, an infant brother, Conrad (Jeanette) Aasen, and Wendell (Rose) Aasen, and a son-in-law Steven Nokleby. Blessed be her memory.
