Nellie Houde, 93, was born on September 1, 1926, in Michigan, the daughter of Fred and Gertrude VanderWeyst Meinert. She grew up in Benson, Minnesota attended country school and graduated from Benson High School. She was united in marriage to Lloyd Houde on September 9, 1944, in Aurora, Colorado. They made their home in Colorado while Lloyd served his country in the Military. They moved to Benson in 1947.
Nellie enjoyed crafts, playing bingo and cards, fishing, and trips to the casino. She loved spending time with her family. Nellie was called from this life on Thursday morning, February 27, 2020, at the Meadow Lane Nursing Home. She attained the age of 93 years, 5 months, and 26 days.
Nellie is survived by her daughters: Lou (Mike) Hanson of Charlotte, North Carolina, Julie (Gary) Landmark of Benson, Marsha (Larry) Williams of Benson, and Lisa Anderson of Benson; her grandchildren: Lynn (Chris) Geyer, Jill Williams, Mindy Landmark, and Nicole Seaford; her great-grandchildren: Kali Geyer, Lane Geyer, Jordon Baquilar, Eric Seaford, and Malik Thomas; a sister Leona Kraemer; daughter–in-law Lynn Houde, and several other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd, her parents Fred and Gertrude Meinert, sons Steven and Ronald Houde, brothers Alvin and Walt Meinert, and a grandson Aaron Landmark. A memorial for Nellie will be held at a later date.
